Patent Analytics Associate

Ocean Tomo Federal Services, LLC is seeking a
Patent Analytics Associate to join us in our Washington DC Metro office. As an Associate, you will regularly interface with patented technologies and the federal and state agencies that own them. You will work as a consultant and problem solver for external clients, and also support internal efforts such as M&A, Valuation, and Expert Services assignments. The Associate position demands strong aptitude for quickly learning diverse new technologies and an ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects. The position is one that requires independent thought, solid problem solving skills, and excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities will include:
- Utilizing your technical domain experience to review client patents and compare them to the state of the art
- Evaluating patents in relation to client or competitor products
- Developing strategic patent plans based on your research findings
- Reviewing patents and patented technologies for additional analyses to be used as part of larger combined engagements
AND
- Presenting conclusions in a written format that can be presented in an actionable format to various business, financial or legal audiences and clients
The analytics associate position requires experience in both a particular technical field, and in the area of patents (e.g. prosecution or enforcement alternatives). The ideal candidate’s combined patent experience and technical expertise will be a total of three to five years, with allowances made for emphasis in one area over the other.
Requirements for Technical Experience:
- Engineering degree from an accredited institution in one of the following disciplines:
- Computer Science / Computer Engineering
- Telecommunications / Optical Networking
- Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical R&D
- Occupied an engineering or R&D role in one of the above disciplines for at least 2 years
- Domain experience will be verified and references will be checked
- Government experience helpful but not required desired
Requirements for Patent Experience:
- General familiarity with patent law and prosecution required
- Practical experience filing, prosecuting, and/or enforcing patents preferred
- USPTO Patent Agent Registration
- Government experience helpful but not required desired
